In June 2012, the City of Worcester became a partner in the Environmental Protection Agency / US Department of Energy initiative, the Better Building Challenge, and committed to reducing energy use by 20% over the next ten years by increasing the energy efficiency of five million square feet of municipal buildings.
As a part of the Better Buildings Challenge, the City selected its City Hall as a “showcase” project. Worcester City Hall has been retrofitted to be more energy efficient by updating the building’s energy infrastructure through projects such as replacing boilers, upgrading the HVAC distribution system, and improving the insulation in the attic.
