Green Buildings in Worcester

As of September 2015, there are a total of 41 LEED projects in Worcester, more than half of which have been completed. Additionally, more than half of the completed projects (11 in total) have the Gold certification! One of the 41 certifications whose status is pending is for a municipal project, the future Nelson Place School.

The interactive map shows the distribution of LEED projects across the city. Click on the map to find more detailed information on each project (by clicking on each dot).

Note: The costs of a LEED certification are prohibitive to some developers, so the total number of 'green' buildings in the city is likely higher than 41.

Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) is a green building certification program which can be applied to differed types of projects (homes, commercial interiors, schools, and more). While not the only green building certification program, it is one of the most commonly recognized.
Once a project team has chosen a rating system to pursue, they must earn points for design, construction, operation, and maintenance of resource-efficient, high-performing, and healthy buildings. Based on the points earned, there are four certification levels: Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum.
